Had a Makita SDS for 6 years. Dropped it. Left it in the rain once. Still drills. For plugs and brick you don't need to spend £650. Buy the Makita and put the difference toward a good impact driver.
The Hilti is worth it if you're on the Hilti fleet system. But buying it outright without fleet makes no sense for most trades. Bosch Professional GBH 18V-26F is another option, around £280, excellent machine and massive battery platform.
Hilti's real advantage is the On Track fleet management, the repair service, and the warranty. If you buy Hilti you pay once and they service and repair it for free for years. For a one-man band plastering business the Makita will absolutely do the job and the cost saving is real. I'd go Hilti if I was drilling concrete all day on a commercial job, Makita or Milwaukee for domestic and general work.
Cheers, think I'll go Makita given I'm mostly drilling fixing plugs in brick. Will save the Hilti investment for if I move to more concrete work.
