Why does every site canteen run out of bacon rolls by 7am?

Plant operators mate. We're in at 6 setting up before the gate even opens. Canteen should really do a run at 7:30 for the civils as well but they never do.

Solution: bring your own. Camping stove in the van, proper roll, decent bacon, none of that steamed canteen rubbish. Changed my life.

If you get friendly with the canteen lady she'll put one aside for you. Three compliments and a smile and you've got a standing order. Works on every site I've ever been on.

I've worked on sites where the SM pre-orders the good stuff. You'll see him walking past with 3 rolls in a bag at 7:05 while the rest of you are looking at an empty tray.

Big job up in Manchester had a canteen that closed for resupply between 7 and 8. So it was either eat before the shift started or wait until 8. Complete madness. 400 workers and they couldn't figure out a rolling service.
